Social Impact
A major part of Jackie Robinson's social impact was that he was a trend setter. After he joined the major leagues, many more African Americans followed shortly after. Slowly throughout time baseball became the example of how to live in a non-segregated country. "We put the dogens of our past behind us." Robinson made this quote hoping that segregation would be over soon after he joined the majors. More recent symbols of Jackie Robinson's accomplishments are shown frequently. A good example is in 1997 when the New York Mets played the now known Los Angeles Dodgers, the commissioner stopped the game to commemorate the day he broke the color barrier. Due to Jackie Robinson we now live in a better world than we might have been living in today without him.
