Political Impact
Seeing black soldiers return home to racism made Harry S. Truman want to take a stand. The only problem was that he was afraid to without dixiecrat support. When Jackie Robinson learned about Truman's support he began to write letters to the president encouraging him to take action for Civil Rights. After Robinson broke the color barrier he started sharing his own political beliefs. He became a political correspondent during his time of fame. Because of Robinson the U.S government started to allow African Americans new rights. The New York Mayor made a big deal about Robinson breaking the color barrier in hope to gain votes from the African American population. In essence Jackie Robinson had a huge impact on American politics in his time.
